Care for Staff Program
Supporting Alberta's continuing care workforce through meaningful, evidence-based mental health and wellness initiatives.
Program Overview
Care for Staff is a grant program designed to support staff working within continuing care facilities and homes in Alberta. Eligible organizations may apply for funding to implement wellness projects that directly impact staff mental health and/or make improvements to the workplace to better support staff wellbeing and improve staff retention in the sector.
Originally announced in 2023, the first Care for Staff initiative was made possible through a $2.5 million investment from the Government of Alberta under the Continuing Care Staff Mental Health Supports (CCSMHS) grant. The full amount was successfully distributed in 2024, with strong uptake across the sector. Recognizing the imperative need, the Government of Alberta committed an additional $7.5 million to be dispersed over two years (2025 - 2027) to further support frontline staff mental health and workplace well-being.
Who Can Apply?
Through this grant program, Alberta Health Services (AHS) contracted providers are eligible to apply:
- Continuing Care Home Operators (Type A and B)
- Hospice Operators (Type C)
- Home & Community Care Providers (Type 2)
Providers do not need to be ACCA members to participate. The Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS) may add providers/operators to the eligible list should any new contracted providers become eligible.
