Caregiver-Centered Practice in Continuing Care Pre-Conference Workshop

Tuesday, October 14, 2025

12:00 - 4:00 PM

Edmonton Convention Centre, Salon 4

Free for all stakeholders interested in partnering with family caregivers in strengthening Alberta’s continuing care system.

Unlock the Power of Partnership with Family Caregivers

Family caregivers are the invisible heartbeat of continuing care in Alberta—providing physical help, emotional encouragement and invaluable personal knowledge about residents’ histories, preferences and routines. Yet, too often their expertise is overlooked. When care teams and family caregivers work together, everyone benefits: residents experience fewer behavioral challenges and greater overall well-being; trust and communication flourish between staff and families; workforce resilience improves as burnout drops; and caregivers feel respected and empowered.

Workshop Focus: From Insight to Impact

This interactive session delivers practical strategies to transform partnership principles into everyday practice:

1. Build Collaboration

  • Form site-based partnership teams
  • Adapt proven education modules—workshops, e-learning or blended—to your context

2. Engage Every Voice

  • Equip interdisciplinary staff to authentically recognize, invite and incorporate caregiver insight
  • Break down silos by aligning frontline workers, leadership and support roles around shared goals

3. Ensure Sustainability

  • Embed caregiver-centered principles in onboarding, policies and daily workflows
  • Cultivate and support “site champions” to keep momentum moving forward
