Silvera for Seniors: Empowering Seniors to Live Their Best Lives
Silvera for Seniors is Calgary’s largest provider of affordable housing for older adults, boasting a legacy of over 63 years. As a non-profit social enterprise, Silvera offers a continuum of independent and supportive housing options—from rent-geared-to-income units to competitively priced mid-market suites—across 36 communities housing more than 2,300 older adults citywide.
The organization is committed to ensuring that seniors of all income levels have access to high-quality, suitable housing and supportive services. Silvera empowers older adults to live independently—and with purpose—for as long as possible. Through innovation, partnerships and a culture of caring, Silvera builds strong and dynamic community hubs to support the physical and social needs of our residents, so they can age in place with connection, comfort and peace of mind.
Aging in Place Philosophy
Guided by a philosophy of aging in place, Silvera is redefining senior living through its commitment to sustainable service innovation. Service strategy is rooted in the Silvera Neighbourhood to Age in Place community hub construct, which connects Silvera residents to each other, key service partners, neighbours and the city of Calgary. Silvera’s impact extends beyond housing. It plays a pivotal role in advancing system-wide efficiencies by collaborating with health and housing sectors to develop community-based care solutions. Silvera’s “it takes a village” approach invites strategic partners to co-deliver aging in place initiatives ranging from home care and wellness providers, donors, volunteers, community organizations, to post-secondary partners for research and student practicum purposes. Silvera is proud to collaborate with UCalgary, MRU, Cumming School of Medicine, Bow Valley College and SAIT students.
Silvera’s Integrated and Holistic Approach
Silvera integrates research, resident feedback, and numerous strategic partnerships to deliver person-centered care that promotes independence, health and well-being. Programs like Memory Care, Mobility Care, Resident Resource Navigation, and Life, Learning & Leisure exemplify Silvera’s holistic approach to promote seniors’ physical, cognitive, and social well-being and maintain independence.
As a trusted partner in Alberta’s continuing care landscape, Silvera exemplifies how integrated housing and support services can empower seniors to live their best lives in community.
