Continuing Care Changes Planned for Later This Year: Announcement from Premier Kenney and Health Minister Shandro

Mar 04, 2021

Premier Jason Kenney and Health Minister Tyler Shandro were at AgeCare in Calgary to outline details of the $3.5 Billion funding for Continuing Care announced in last week's provincial Budget.

The ACCA would like to thank Premier Kenney and Minister Shandro for having included the association in the announcement, with Board Chair Salimah Walji-Shivji saying that the funding is "urgently needed" with the number of seniors in the province expected to more than double over the next 15 years.

The vast majority, $2.8 billion, will pay for the continued operations of supportive living and long-term care homes. Another $500 million is allocated for capital spending to improve facilities over the next three years.

The ACCA looks forward to continued collaboration with both the provincial government and Alberta Health Services in ensuring our province's seniors and those requiring care receive the best quality of care when and where it is needed.
