Care for Staff $2.5M Grant Fully Dispersed, Elevating Mental Wellbeing in Continuing Care

May 09, 2024 Announcements

May 9, Edmonton, AB – During Mental Health Week in Canada, the Alberta Continuing Care Association (ACCA) proudly announced that the Care for Staff program has successfully allocated the entire $2.5 million in grants to qualified Quick Intervention Projects (QIPs). These projects are dedicated to enhancing staff satisfaction and mental health in continuing care. This grant, funded by the Government of Alberta and administered by ACCA, elicited an overwhelming response from continuing care operators and home care providers, highlighting the critical need for such initiatives within the sector.

“ACCA has appreciated the opportunity to provide leadership in the delivery of the mental health grant to support staff wellness and resiliency in the continuing care sector,” says Feisal Keshavjee, Chair of the ACCA Board. “The Care for Staff program aligns with the refocus and transformation of the sector to ensure the highest quality of care of clients and residents by supporting staff to reflect and learn about their own mental well-being in the workplace.”

The Care for Staff program represents a significant milestone in mental health support, funded by the $2.5 million Continuing Care Staff Mental Health Supports (CCSMHS) project grant announced in early October 2023 by Minister Adriana LaGrange. Eligibility for this program extends to all Alberta Health Service (AHS) contracted continuing home care and hospice operators, as well as home and community care providers.

“The allocated Care for Staff QIP funds are crucial in our mission to foster a supportive workplace culture,” says Tyla Lyle, Site Leader at Silverado Creek Seniors Community. “By investing in leadership training and promoting mental health awareness among our healthcare team, we aim to cultivate a positive environment that prioritizes psychological safety and teamwork.”
