The Alberta Continuing Care Association members confirm that the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine to designated supportive living and long-term care residents and employees is gaining positive momentum. This is both a welcome and important step in protecting residents and those who care for them.
As per the Alberta Health Services plan, providers are being contacted and key sites have been prioritized for resident vaccinations. Staff are also being contacted by AHS and scheduled for vaccines, and we are pleased that homecare staff are part of the Phase 1a priority group. To date, AHS reports that the majority of health care staff are accepting the opportunity to be vaccinated as an important step in protecting themselves, their families, and the people they care for.
The vaccine rollout is good news and offers optimism and hope for care providers, residents, family members and staff.
